2012 Council Sponsored Training - Troop 1855 will Participate

Youth Whitewater Training

The Middle Tennessee Council was the first and is still one of the few Councils to offer this training. Whitewater Canoeing and Kayaking is a great high adventure activity for your Scout.

This course is taught for both kayaks and canoes and at all skill levels - Beginner, Novice, Intermediate and Advanced.

The training can be taken as a Troop or Crew activity or by individual Scouts.

Kayaking Prerequisites:

  1. Previous Youth Whitewater Canoe School
  2. 12 years or older
  3. 1st Class Scout (if applicable)
  4. Canoeing Merit Badge (if applicable)
  5. BSA Swimmer
  6. Signed Permission Slip
  7. Annual Health and Medical Record

Canoeing Prerequisites

  1. 12 years or older
  2. 1st Class Scout (if applicable)
  3. BSA Swimmer
  4. Signed Permission Slip
  5. Annual Health and Medical Record

Note: Boats, PFDs, paddles, spray skirts and helmets will be provided.

Whitewater Training Dates

Youth Session: July 28 - 29, 2012

Hiwassee River

Cost: $50.00 (non-refundable)

Limit: 60 participants

  • Kayak - 30 participants
  • Canoe - 30 participants

Lodge cost per person (with minimum of 30 people) $45.20

Paoli Ski Pass $75.00
Helmet Rental Cost $21.40
Meal Cost $12.00

Total Trip Expense per Person: $153.60

Graber Lodge:

Sleeps 30. 1200 square feet bunk style dormitory lodging with 6 double bunk beds, open living room, 2 ½ baths, 3 sleeper sofas in great room surrounding fireplace, double size beds, fully furnished kitchen with cookware, tableservice, linens for 30, coffee makers, can opener, toaster, vcr, microwave, gas fireplace, slopeside.

Merit Badge Weekend – Paoli Peaks: 

Snow Pass and rental equipment for Saturday Day, Saturday Midnight, and Sunday Day
1 hour group lessons and (2) 30 minute classroom instruction session with Ski Patrol and Snow Sports Staff

Saturday 9am – 9pm

Saturday Midnight 8pm – 3am

Sunday 9am – 9pm

Many Scouts will, at some point, resist going any further in Scouting. When does a parent intervene and make him stay in Scouts?

Just about every boy will reach some impasse along the way that will make them reluctant or downright adamant about participating. If you are a Scouting parent it’s more  than likely that this is going to happen to you; don’t be surprised. Your son is probably not much different than the millions of other Scouts who preceded him.

These concepts are generalities but boys are individuals and every one needs individual attention.

To register for an outing, hover your mouse over menu item "Outings" and scroll down to "Register for...." and click on the link. 

If you would like to see who has registered for an outing, follow the above procedure but click on "Fall Creek Falls Roster" and it will display a spreadsheet of the individuals that have opted in and out.
